USDA extended its moratorium on Rural Business-Cooperative Service loans for new anaerobic digesters and controlled environment agriculture projects through the end of 2026. The pause was first announced in January and was set to expire mid-April. In addition to digesters, the loan program supports projects such as vertical farming and hydroponics. According to USDA, the extended pause supports sector-specific underwriting guidance development, lender eligibility and oversight requirements assessment, stronger collateral evaluation, and ensuring future approvals match the program’s goals.
